October 29, 2026
Kaukauna has three big free holiday evenings in December 2026, and all three fall on school nights. The Electric City Christmas Parade is on a Tuesday. The Library of Lights turns on that Monday. The Silent Night Hike at the 1000 Islands Environmental Center is the Tuesday after. The weekends go to the Grignon Mansion Christmas Tours, which charge admission. If your December fills up with work holiday parties and weekend travel, plan around that split. The free events will meet you on a weeknight.
Here is the season the way the city and its partners have posted it as of late October 2026:
| Date | Day | Event | Where | Cost |

Every free evening event falls on a Monday or Tuesday. Every ticketed slot falls on a Friday or Saturday.
The parade is not on a Tuesday by accident this year. The city's 2026 event listing puts the Electric City Christmas Parade on Dec. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. In 2025, the 36th annual parade stepped off at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The city's holiday calendar already lists the following year's parade for Dec. 7, 2027, which is also a Tuesday. Three years in a row, the parade lands on the first Tuesday in December.
The city's 2026 event listing gives the date and time but no route or theme. Theme contest entries were due Wednesday, Oct. 14, according to the city's 2026 theme contest form.
Last year's route gives a reasonable idea of where to stand, though it is not a promise for this year. Kaukauna Community News reported that the 2025 parade started at Wisconsin Avenue and Depot Street. It went southeast on Wisconsin Avenue, turned south on Highway 55/Crooks Avenue, then turned right again onto Second Street, finishing along the stretch toward Reaume Avenue. The Second Street stretch from Highway 55 to Reaume was set aside as a sensory-sensitive zone, which matters if anyone in your group does better with less noise. After the parade, the Community Room in the SPaR building at 207 Reaume Ave. served cookies and hot chocolate, and Santa was there. Watch for the 2026 announcement to see whether those pieces come back.
A Tuesday parade usually means coming straight from work or school and eating along the way. Last year's route ran past several downtown spots on Wisconsin Avenue:
Check each one's evening hours before you count on it for a 5:15 p.m. dinner. Kaukauna Community News reported in March that Mad Chicken is coming to 136 E. Second St., right on the 2025 parade's final leg, but no opening date had been announced at the time.
Six days after the parade, the season moves to Thilmany Road. The 2026 kickoff, billed as "Kaukauna Utilities presents The Library of Lights," runs 4 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7, at Kaukauna Public Library, 207 Thilmany Rd., Suite 200. Library staff will light the Learning Garden and switch the display on at dusk. There will be hot chocolate outside and a craft inside, and you don't need to register.
WBAY reported that the display goes up in the Rita and David Nelson Family Interactive Learning Garden at the library, not in a city park. Kaukauna Utilities was part of last year's switch-on too. The Times-Villager reported that General Manager Michael Avanzi led the switch-on at the 2025 ceremony, in a clipping reprinted in WPPI Energy's December 2025 member news roundup.
The kickoff timing follows last year closely. The 2025 ceremony was on Monday, Dec. 8, again the Monday after a Tuesday parade. The kickoff is only an hour, but the lights stay up much longer. In 2025, Go Valley Kids listed the display running daily from dusk until 9 p.m., with candy canes in the garden. A 2022 guide from the same outlet described it as free, with donations welcome, and running through December into early January. The 2026 listing doesn't give nightly hours or an end date, so treat those earlier details as a guide, not a schedule.
That longer run makes the Library of Lights the most flexible event of the season. If a Monday at 4 p.m. doesn't work, the garden will still be lit on a quieter night later in the month.
The paid side of the season is at the Grignon Mansion. Its Christmas Tours run Dec. 4, 5, 11 and 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Fridays and 2 to 7 p.m. on Saturdays. The tours are holiday-themed and include hot drinks and crafts. Admission for 2026:
All proceeds go to the Friends of the Grignon Mansion.
There are four tour dates, all on Fridays and Saturdays, and none conflict with the parade, the lights kickoff or the hike. A family of two adults and two school-age kids would pay $36 for an afternoon at the mansion. The three weeknight events cost nothing.
Saturday, Dec. 5, is the busiest day of the season. The Environmental Center's free Happy Holiday Crafts for children and families runs 11 a.m. to noon that morning, and preregistration is required. The Grignon tours open at 2 p.m. the same day, so you can do the craft in the morning and the mansion in the afternoon.
The season's last big free evening is back on a Tuesday, at the 1000 Islands Environmental Center, 1000 Beaulieu Court. The Silent Night Hike runs 5 to 8 p.m. It's a self-guided walk on the illuminated boardwalk, with hot chocolate and snacks while supplies last. It's free, and the center welcomes donations.
The three-hour window makes it easy on a school night. You can show up at 5:30 straight from practice or at 7:15 after dinner and still walk the whole boardwalk. Questions go to the center at 920.766.4733 or [email protected].
Tuesday is a regular night at the center, not just for this event. Its free Junior Naturalist program meets 4 to 5:15 p.m. on Nov. 10, Nov. 24 and Dec. 8, all Tuesdays. The Dec. 8 session falls the day after the Library of Lights kickoff, which makes that a two-night stretch for families who want both.
Registration splits along the same line as the days of the week. The parade needs nothing. The Library of Lights kickoff says registration isn't required. The Silent Night Hike is self-guided. The programs that do need a reservation are mostly in the daytime, and a few come up before December:
The snowshoe craft is the one to book now. At $10, it's the only paid program in the center's November lineup, and the finished snowshoe is ready to hang before the parade comes down Wisconsin Avenue on Dec. 1.
